Satchel, BC Rytas, and Mes Darom teams hang bird feeders in Vingis Park

Last Friday, we traded our office desks for Vingis Park. Together with our long-standing partners, BC Rytas, and environmental organisation Mes Darom, our team spent the afternoon hanging bird feeders across one of Vilnius’ most beloved green spaces – just in time for tomorrow’s Day of Forty Birds.

The timing was deliberate. The Day of Forty Birds marks the symbolic moment when around 40 species of birds are believed to have returned to Lithuania, signalling the true arrival of spring. For us, it felt like the right moment to step outside and do something tangible for the city we call home.

The activity kicked off with a short lecture from a pro who introduced us to the birds that inhabit Vingis Park – and the ones that will be arriving soon. It was a grounding reminder that urban green spaces are living ecosystems quietly doing their work around us every day. From there, we fanned out across the park, finding spots for the feeders that will soon welcome the season’s first arrivals.

One bird feeder at a time

“We are a part of one interconnected living system,” says Satchel CEO, Sergiy Barybin. “Caring for nature means building a sustainable environment for ourselves and for generations to come. It’s great to do this alongside the BC Rytas team and Mes Darom – people who share the same desire to look after our surroundings.”

According to Jaroslav Latušinskij, the Executive Director of BC Rytas, the club sees the involvement in such campaigns as a natural responsibility for them as the ambassadors of the city: “It is important for us that the name of BC Rytas is associated with an active contribution to the well-being of Vilnius. Hanging the bird feeders together with the Satchel and Mes Darom teams is an experience of meaningful work together. This is part of our message “Together Against All”: being united, we can achieve victories, but also protect what is universally dear to us all.”

“By hanging bird feeders in Vingis Park with the BC Rytas and Satchel teams, we want to remind you that every tit or starling in the city does a huge job maintaining the balance of the ecosystem,” says Edvardas Baltuška, the Head of Communications at Mes Darom. “The initiative of Satchel and the example shown by the Rytas basketball players shows that nature conservation starts with simple work – but it brings real benefit.”

The best systems are the ones you nurture

That applies to financial infrastructure, to the businesses we serve – and to the ecosystems right outside our doors. Initiatives like this one are a reminder that meaningful action doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with showing up, listening to an expert, and doing a bit of work with your hands.

We’re grateful to BC Rytas and Mes Darom for making this happen, and we’re already looking forward to what comes next. Stay tuned!
